As Told by You: Covid-Secure Wedding Ceremonies at Liverpool City Halls

2020, eh? A bit of a crazy and disruptive year for everyone.

Among the many people affected by restrictions brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic are Brides & Grooms To Be – many of whom had their dream day scheduled this year, and have seen their grand plans taken away from them.

Spare a thought, also, for suppliers and service providers whose organisations have taken a hit as a result of this wide-scale disruption; wedding planners, dress makers, tailors, wedding car drivers, photographers, videographers, stylists, make-up artists, florists, decorators, stationary providers, furniture hire companies, caterers and hospitality staff, entertainers, celebrants, registrars… The list goes on.

But the good news is that many couples – through sheer grit, determination and, of course, love – have swept aside their big aspirations, embracing “the new normal” and cherishing an intimate ceremony, albeit with some strange differences (hello, face masks and socially distanced seating – we’re talking about you).

Some would be inclined to say that such measures would take away the magic aura which is associated with the experience of a wedding day. Not everyone though. As a suite of wedding venues, we’d be the first to tell you that all of our Liverpool City Halls are grateful for this. Not least St George’s Hall, which is home to the city’s statutory registration service, Liverpool Register Office.

Having seen ceremony capacities initially reduced to a maximum capacity of 30, then down to 15, then changed again due to #Lockdown2, the team have had their work cut out in dealing with date changes and cancellations. Amidst all of this though, has come the welcome duty of officiating weddings and civil ceremonies. Here’s where you come in…

We will be using this blog to share images, stories and testimonials of Covid-secure weddings that have taken place at Croxteth Hall, St George’s Hall and Liverpool Town Hall. So, whether you’re a Bride, Groom, wedding guest, photographer – or any other kind of wedding supplier for that matter – we will be more than happy to share your experiences below (just scroll to the bottom of this page to find out how you can get involved).

Your Stories So Far….

Croxteth Hall

Chloe and Craig

Chloe is an Event Manager and a valued member of the Culture Liverpool team which Liverpool City Halls report to, as a Liverpool City Council-led service. Like many other couples, Chloe and her partner Craig seen their big plans change and had to rethink their special day. With the help of the Croxteth Hall and Country Park team, the happy couple were eventually wed in a small ceremony in grand surroundings…

“The day was absolutely amazing, all the staff at Croxteth Hall were very helpful before and during our wedding day. The room looked amazing and the outdoor space is just beautiful. Would love to do it all over again 😊”

St George’s Hall

Danielle and David

Danielle and David tied the knot with the help of the amazing Liverpool Register Office team, who host their ceremonies in the Grand Jury Room, the Rose Room and the Sefton Room of St George’s Hall…

“We got married in your Sefton room on Saturday and just wanted to say how special you made our day. Even with the restrictions in place, it honestly couldn’t have been more perfect. We felt truly loved and all of your staff were amazing. Thank you very much x”

Laima and Kevin

Laima and Kevin were one of many couples who have reaped the rewards of the Concert Room offer, which was introduced by our Liverpool City Halls wedding team to present couples with a grandiose ceremony option, following disruptions brought on by the pandemic…

“Despite Covid restrictions, we all had a great time. All the staff were awesome and looked after us. Can’t recommend having a wedding there enough. The best place in the greatest city.”

Kerry-Ann and Scott

Kerry-Ann and Scott are another couple who were wed courtesy of the Liverpool Register Office team. The newlyweds were accompanied by their three year-old son and got their stunning images taken by The Soulcase Wedding Photography. Here’s what they had to say…

“Our Covid wedding was amazing! Even with restrictions in place such as social distancing in the Sefton Room it felt so intimate with our 7 guests. The registrar was so relaxed and so friendly with our 3 year old son, not phased at all by him playing with his toy car and even joined in after the ceremony! Can’t thank the team enough for making our day memorable ❤ St John’s Gardens provided a beautiful backdrop for some photographs!”

Liverpool Town Hall

Adele and Sean

Adele and Sean exchanged their vows in an intimate setting at Liverpool Town Hall, facilitated by the Liverpool City Halls wedding team. Here’s what they had to say about their day…

“Our wedding day may not have been the one you dreamt about growing up, with new restrictions meaning guests accessorised with face masks rather than bags and shoes; But it didn’t take away from the amazing day we both had, celebrated with our nearest and dearest in the most beautiful surroundings at the Town Hall, and supported by our Events planner who reassured us every step of the way.”

Covid-secure weddings at Liverpool City Halls

All three of our City Halls have adapted in line with “the new normal”, introducing track and compulsory wearing of face masks (unless exempt), track and trace sign-in, extra sanitary measures, one-way systems (assisted by signage) and social distancing. The below video is a short walk-through taken by a member of our Liverpool Town Hall team, displaying how wedding guests will experience the venue during social-distancing measures…
